Bamboo grows faster than any other plant โ some species up to 91cm per day. It requires no pesticides, no fertilizers, and no replanting after harvest. It sequesters carbon at rates comparable to hardwood forests, improves soil quality, and prevents erosion.
At Kawayan Farm, bamboo isn't just an ingredient. It's the foundation of everything we do โ a sustainable crop that supports local communities, preserves forest ecosystems, and produces food that is genuinely good for people and the planet.
Kawayan Farm is based in Pililla, Rizal โ in the foothills of the Sierra Madre mountain range, approximately 60 kilometers east of Manila. The Sierra Madre is the longest mountain range in the Philippines and one of the most biodiverse regions in Southeast Asia.
Local communities in Pililla have harvested bamboo shoots for food and bamboo stalks for construction for centuries. Kawayan Farm works directly with these communities, providing a reliable market for sustainably harvested shoots.
Harvestable in 3โ5 years vs. 25โ70 for hardwood. Regenerates from its root system โ no replanting needed.
Naturally pest-resistant. Kawayan Farm bamboo is grown without any chemical inputs โ cleaner shoots, cleaner soil.
Sequesters 1.78 tons of COโ per hectare per year โ comparable to hardwood forests.
Bamboo's root system prevents erosion on hillsides and riverbanks โ critical in the Sierra Madre foothills.
We take only young shoots, leaving the parent plant intact. Outer husks are composted and returned to the soil.
We pay fair prices to local farming families who have stewarded these forests for generations.
Every jar of Kawayan Farm labong supports sustainable bamboo farming in the Sierra Madre foothills. Small-batch, preservative-free, and ready in 3 minutes.
